Hosanna

Jesus drew near to Jerusalem

On the back of a colt that had never been ridden

He rode along and they set palms on the ground

And laid down their cloaks and shouted out loud

Hosanna! Blessed is he

Who comes in the name- the name of the Lord

Glory and peace in heaven

Hosanna in the highest!

The Pharisees were so pious and proud

They got onto him for not rebuking the crowd

Jesus replied, “If they kept quiet,

These very stones on the road would cry out”

Hosanna! Blessed is he

Hosanna in the highest!

They thought he would be their earthly king

Who’d lead their nation in the conquering

Of Roman leaders who had caused their suffering

But this kingdom was of a different brand

The kingdom of heaven not a kingdom of man

With a King their hardened hearts wouldn’t understand

5 days later the situation was grim

The people who’d praised him now said “Crucify Him”

Nailed to a cross, the “King of the Jews”

Said “Father forgive them- they know not what they do”

Hosanna! Blessed is he
