Inspired by Matthew 7:24-27
I heard the words but I refused to listen
A captive in an intellectual prison
Where fools see wise men when they stare in mirrors
And mock the multitude of the God-fearers
Arrogant and ignorant of true life
Cut into a sharp mind with a dull knife
My ego spread across that bread like butter
Conformed into the demon’s cookie cutter
On the sand we’re building
We wonder why it keeps falling
The wind blew, the rain fell
It could not withstand the flooding
I heard the words and I began to listen
All the doors were opened in my prison
Then I knew that I’m not the potter I’m just clay
I took my first breath as a free man that day
On the rock we’re building
The storm comes, but it’s not falling
The wind blows, the rain falls
Now our house withstands the flooding
I hear strong seas
Waves wash over me
Each night I sing
Your love’s on me
